Mark Brooks

Investment Manager


Based in Research Triangle Park, NC, Mark joined Syngenta Ventures in 2020.  Mark’s career began as an Applied Climatologist. For 10 years, he worked closely with scientists in various agricultural disciplines to create decision support tools for farmers. Examples include disease forecasting systems for peanut, cucurbit, blackberry, and turfgrass. He is also founder of two companies – one of which ranked in the top 3% of the Internet and another that built crop advisory tools for wine-grape and strawberry growers.

Most recently, Mark was head of Innovation and Strategic Partnerships at AICPA, the world's largest association for professional accountants. There he architected and led the only startup accelerator by and for the accounting space. His role at AICPA included being an internal consultant for senior leadership, leading M&A for the association, and enhancing the culture of innovation.  For his impacts, CPA Practice Adviser recognized Mark with its 20 Under 40 honor for leading the development of technology in the accounting and finance profession.

Mark is currently an observer on the board of Agbiome and Agrivida - and also a director on the board of Premier Crop Systems.

Mark holds a B.S. in Meteorology and a M.B.A. with a concentration in entrepreneurship, both from North Carolina State University.
